Maharashtra, September 5, 2025 — The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for several parts of Maharashtra coinciding with Ganesh Visarjan (Anant Chaturdashi) celebrations.

A total of 11 districts are under alert, with three districts and the Nashik ghat region under an Orange Alert, while six districts, including Pune’s ghat areas, are under a Yellow Alert.

According to the Mumbai observatory, North Konkan and North Madhya Maharashtra are likely to witness widespread heavy rainfall, while parts of Marathwada may experience moderate to heavy showers. South Konkan is also expected to receive intense rainfall at multiple locations.

  • Mumbai city and suburbs may see heavy rain at isolated spots.
  • Raigad, Thane, and Palghar districts are also expected to receive heavy showers.
  • Pune’s ghat areas are likely to face continuous heavy rainfall for the next three days, while the city and western Maharashtra may see light to moderate showers.

  • North Maharashtra, including Nashik’s ghat areas, Nandurbar, and Dhule, could receive heavy rain on September 5 and 6. Nashik and Jalgaon districts are forecasted to see intense showers as well.
  • In Marathwada, districts like Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna may witness heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places, while other districts may get light to moderate showers.

  • Vidarbha is expected to remain mostly cloudy, with only light rain at a few locations.

The IMD has urged citizens, especially in ghat and coastal regions, to remain cautious during visarjan processions as heavy rainfall could impact immersion activities.
