Maharashtra is witnessing rapid weather changes at the start of the year, with cloudy conditions lingering across several regions after recent unseasonal rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the intensity of cold has temporarily reduced, but a fresh cold wave may return once skies clear over the next few days.
On Monday, January 5, Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar and the Konkan coastal belt are expected to experience cloudy weather, with light morning fog in some areas. The recent sharp chill has eased, and temperatures are likely to remain moderate. In Mumbai, the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 19°C, while the maximum may touch 32°C. Similar conditions are forecast for Thane, Palghar and Raigad, with a gradual rise in daytime temperatures over the coming days.
In Western Maharashtra, including Pune city and surrounding areas, cloud cover and fog have led to a slight increase in minimum temperatures, reducing the severity of winter. Pune is likely to see morning fog, followed by cloudy to partly clear skies during the day. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 29°C, while the minimum may settle near 16°C.
Meanwhile, Marathwada and Vidarbha will witness a gradual change. Marathwada is expected to remain cloudy initially, with skies clearing later in the day. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar may record temperatures between 15°C and 29°C. In Vidarbha, dry weather will prevail as cloud cover reduces. Areas like Amravati could see minimum temperatures around 14°C and maximums near 30°C. With clearer skies, cold conditions may intensify again in these regions.
Overall, while cloudy weather will keep winter mild on January 5, the IMD indicates that night and early morning cold is likely to increase again over the next two days as skies turn clearer across Maharashtra.
