Weather Update for Maharashtra: Cold Mornings, Warm Days Amid La Niña Influence
With the onset of November, Maharashtra is experiencing a mix of weather patterns influenced by La Niña and cyclonic circulations. Here’s a look at the current conditions and what to expect:
While daytime temperatures are warmer, with an increase during the afternoon, nights and early mornings bring cooler conditions, especially in West Maharashtra, where nighttime temperatures may fall to between 17°C and 19°C.
Weather in Maharashtra
The state has started to feel the chill in the mornings, especially in rural areas where cold winds and dew are becoming noticeable. Temperatures have dipped significantly in Jalgaon and Nashik, recording the lowest temperatures in the state at 16.1°C and 16.7°C, respectively. Pune’s weather remains dry, with morning fog and clear skies, with temperatures rising to around 31.7°C during the day and dropping to 17.1°C at night.
La Niña and Cyclonic Circulations
The ongoing La Niña phenomenon is influencing weather patterns, resulting in warmer November days across the region. Although cool mornings have begun, the daytime heat is expected to continue, an unusual trend for this time of year. Additionally, two cyclonic circulations have formed over the Bay of Bengal, bringing light to moderate rainfall to Kerala, Chennai and parts of Karnataka. However, Maharashtra is expected to remain largely unaffected by this cyclone, with only a slight chance of rain and primarily dry weather.
A rain warning has been issued for parts of South India, including Kerala, Chennai and parts of Karnataka, from November 7 to 10, with moderate winds expected. For Maharashtra, however, no significant rainfall is expected, and the dry spell is likely to continue, particularly in Marathwada. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a possible further dip in temperatures across Maharashtra as we move deeper into November.
Advisory for Farmers
The weather pattern is expected to impact agricultural activities across the state. Farmers in Marathwada should plan water management strategies for crops, orchards and livestock as evaporation rates may increase due to dry conditions. With cooler nights and mornings setting in, livestock management, especially for milk production, is also advised, with measures to protect animals from the cold to ensure their health and productivity.
While Maharashtra awaits colder temperatures, the ongoing La Niña effect is likely to sustain the warmth during the daytime, with cooler evenings and mornings gradually setting in as November progresses.
