It has been consistently raining for the past many hours in the catchment areas prompting water discharge from dams across Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. The dam authorities from Khadakwasla dam informed that at 12 noon, water discharge of 4000 cusecs will be held in the river prompting the riverside areas to maintain caution.

Heavy rainfall continues in the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad area and the dam regions, especially on the ghats, leading to increased water discharge from the dams. This has resulted in rising water levels in the Pavana, Indrayani, and Mula rivers flowing through the city. In response, Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh has instructed emergency services to stay alert and urged residents living near riverbanks to be cautious.

To manage the situation effectively, additional commissioners have been assigned responsibilities for coordinating with regional offices. Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil will oversee regions K, I, and F; Vijaykumar Khorate will manage regions D, G, and H; and Chandrakant Indalkar will handle regions A and B. All regional officers have been directed to promptly respond to any emergency situations in their areas.

The Commissioner has also issued directives for the readiness of rescue operations, including medical teams and response units. The Central Control Room is tasked with monitoring the situation and coordinating necessary actions. In case of emergencies, the possibility of deploying military and NDRF teams will be considered.

Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to stay informed about water levels through direct communication and public announcements. Emergency shelters are being prepared, and the administration is coordinating with the dam management and police to ensure effective responses.

The heavy rainfall and increased dam discharge may lead to further rises in water levels, especially in low-lying areas along the Pavana, Indrayani, and Mula rivers. The public is advised to heed evacuation notices if issued and to avoid approaching riverbanks. The municipal administration has made necessary arrangements and equipped its rescue teams with essential tools to address the situation.
