The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the districts of Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara, effective for three days starting Friday. The alert warns of heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly in the ghat areas of these districts.

In the 24 hours leading up to 10:30 AM on Thursday, Kolhapur district received 9mm of rainfall, Satara 2mm, and Sangli 1.9mm. Kolhapur city experienced intermittent drizzles in the evening. The Panchaganga river’s water level at the Rajaram barrage receded to 16 feet 11 inches on Thursday.

Since June 1, the 15 dam catchment areas in Kolhapur district have recorded 229mm of rainfall, significantly higher than the 124mm recorded during the same period last year. On Thursday, these catchment areas received an average of 10mm of rainfall. The Ghatprabha, Jambre, Kode, Andur, and Vesraf dams are currently at full capacity. The Radhanagari dam is discharging water at a rate of 1,300 cusecs, while the outflow from Ghatprabha stands at 1,219 cusecs.

In Satara district, the Koyna dam catchment area received 30mm of rainfall, while Navaja recorded 55mm and Mahabaleshwar 22mm in the same 24-hour period.

Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions in light of the heavy rainfall forecast.
