Weather Update: Pune Experiences Coldest Day Of The Year As Mercury Dips To 12.1°C, Temperature Likely To Drop To 10°C Soon
Pune recorded its coldest day of the year on Monday morning, with the temperature dropping to 12.1°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This chilly spell is expected to intensify in the coming days as north and north-westerly winds bring colder air into the region, potentially lowering the mercury to 10°C or below.
Over the past two weeks, the city has consistently experienced minimum temperatures between 12.2°C and 12.3°C, a trend driven by clear skies and an influx of cold northern air. Among Pune’s various locations, the NDA area recorded the lowest temperature on Monday at 10.3°C. Pashan followed closely at 12.2°C, while areas like Magarpatta remained comparatively warmer at 18.1°C.
IMD officials previously noted that November was expected to remain relatively warm due to the absence of strong northern winds, with winter conditions anticipated to fully set in by December and January. However, the recent dip in temperatures suggests that winter’s arrival may be accelerating.
The cold wave is not limited to Pune alone. Many parts of Maharashtra have been reporting minimum temperatures in the range of 11-12°C, with forecasts predicting further declines in the coming days.
Residents are advised to prepare for cooler weather as Pune braces for what could be its chilliest period yet this year.
