PUNE: The regions of Maharashtra and Pune are expected to receive rainfall in the upcoming days as a result of the delayed withdrawal of the southwest monsoon across the country.

A statement was issued by Anupam Kashyapi, Head, Weather Forecasting Division, stating that there is currently cloud cover, specifically Cumulonimbus (Cb) clouds, which have developed. Rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring, with a moderate to intense intensity. It is advised to refer to the impact based advisories for further information and to take necessary precautions.

The anticipated impacts of this weather event include localized flooding of roads, water logging in low lying areas, and closure of underpasses, particularly in urban areas of the aforementioned regions.

There may also be occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall, leading to potential disruption of traffic in major cities and increased travel time.

Minor damage to kutcha roads and vulnerable structures is also possible. Additionally, localized landslides and mudslides may occur, resulting in damage to horticulture and standing crops in certain areas due to inundation. Riverine flooding in some river catchments is also a possibility.

In light of these potential impacts, it is suggested to check for traffic congestion on your intended route before embarking on your journey. It is important to follow any traffic advisories that are issued in relation to this weather event.

It is advisable to avoid areas that frequently experience water logging problems and to refrain from staying in vulnerable structures.
