Weather Update: Pune Set To Experience Light Rain And ThunderstormsTill October 19
Pune and surrounding areas are likely to witness rain accompanied by thunderstorms over the next two days as the southwest monsoon continues its delayed withdrawal. Typically, the monsoon withdraws from Maharashtra by October 5, but this year it has lingered, bringing occasional showers.
As per the Indian Meteorological Department, it is expected that the city will experience rainfall till October 19. The city will experience a cloudy sky with thunder, lightning and light rain from October 15 to 19.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure system has formed over the south Bay of Bengal, contributing to the unsettled weather. Additionally, two other weather systems are active over the Arabian Sea, resulting in cloudy conditions and possible rainfall in Pune.
The recent cloud cover has provided relief from the heat typically experienced in October. The extended monsoon has been beneficial to Maharashtra, leading to overflowing dams across the state and ensuring sufficient water reserves.
Despite the monsoon’s positive impact, much of October has been relatively dry, with the Navratri festive season passing without significant rain. The IMD forecasts that the city may experience evening rains, gusty winds, and thunderstorms over the next two days, providing some respite from the warm weather.
This late monsoon activity is expected to end soon, marking the official retreat of the southwest monsoon from the region.
