Pune News: SPPU Post-Doctoral Fellowship Applicants Highlight Concerns Over Age Limit And Technical Issues
Students applying for the Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) have raised several issues since the fellowship was announced for the current academic year on September 6, 2024. The last date for application submission was September 30, but many applicants faced difficulties due to server errors, while others expressed concerns about the fellowship’s irregular implementation.
One key issue flagged is the age limit for applicants. For open category candidates, the age limit is 32 years, while for SC/ST/PWD/Women it is 37 years, and for OBC it is 35 years. Some students argue that these age restrictions unfairly limit their academic progression, especially given the lengthy nature of the PhD process.
A student, who requested anonymity, stated that many research students don’t realize when they cross the age limit due to the prolonged admission and PhD process. Meanwhile, Rahul Sasane from the University Students Action Committee criticized the university for not advertising the fellowship consistently over the past three years, leading to academic and financial losses for students.
SPPU officials encouraged students facing technical difficulties to reach out for assistance, and assured that steps would be taken to ensure the fellowship is advertised regularly in the future.
