PUNE: Pune has recorded a rainfall deficit, with Maharashtra having a deficit of 58 percent as of Friday. The current dry spell in August is a cause for concern for the state, as it could lead to a shortage of water for drinking and irrigation in the later part of the year.

On the other hand, in July, there was good rainfall, with dams that provide water to the city of Pune and the surrounding areas filling up to their capacity. However, the monsoon rains in the state stopped just after the first week of August, raising concern.

According to Shilpa Apte, Weather Forecasting Department of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), ”Pune will experience cloudy weather on Monday, followed by light rainfall on August 29 and 30. The weather in the city is expected to remain cloudy until September 3.”
