WhatsApp rolls out new features for video calling: Everything you should know.
Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has introduced two new features for video calls. Users can now add filters and backgrounds to enhance their video call experience. “With these new effects, you can change your background or add a filter during a video call for a more personal touch,” the company mentioned in a blog post.
Meta explains that the filters aim to create a more playful atmosphere or lend an artistic vibe to the videos. Similar to other video call platforms like Zoom, Teams, and Meet, WhatsApp will now let users change their backgrounds. Whether it’s a coffee shop or a cozy living room, users can achieve a cleaner and more polished look. WhatsApp emphasizes that the filters are designed to help users “create a more playful atmosphere” by adding vibrant colors or artistic elements to their video calls. Meanwhile, the background feature allows users to maintain their privacy by overlaying their actual surroundings with images of a coffee shop or living room.
Users can pick from 10 filters and 10 backgrounds to create a unique look for their video calls! The filter options include Warm, Cool, Black & White, Light leak, Dreamy, Prism light, Fisheye, Vintage TV, Frosted glass, and Duotone. For backgrounds, they can choose from Blur, Living Room, Office, Cafe, Pebbles, Foodie, Smoosh, Beach, Sunset, Celebration, and Forest.
WhatsApp also mentioned adding touch-up and low-light options to help users feel more confident by naturally enhancing the brightness and look of their environment, making video calls more vibrant and enjoyable.
To use these features, during a 1:1 or group video call, just tap the effects icon in the top right corner of the screen. Then, you can choose from the selection of filters and backgrounds that pop up.
