As the summer heat sets in, so does the much-awaited mango season. Across homes and markets, mangoes are flying off the shelves, and with them, a wide variety of mango-based products are also gaining popularity. From fresh fruit platters to refreshing beverages and rich desserts, the mango truly rules the Indian summer. But have you ever wondered which country grows the most mangoes in the world?

According to data from 2022, India is by far the largest producer of mangoes globally, harvesting a staggering 2.63 million metric tons of the fruit that year. This puts India at the top of the list—by a wide margin.

While Indonesia takes the second spot in mango production, there’s a massive gap between the two. In fact, India’s mango output is six times higher than that of Indonesia, clearly establishing its dominance in the global mango market.

Other top mango-producing countries include China, Pakistan, and Mexico, which rank third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

To break down the numbers:

  • The second-ranked country, Indonesia, produced around 0.41 million metric tons of mangoes.
  • China followed closely with 0.38 million metric tons.
  • Pakistan came in fourth, producing 0.28 million metric tons.
  • Mexico rounded out the top five with 0.25 million metric tons.

These figures highlight just how important mangoes are to India—not only culturally and culinarily, but also economically. While several countries play key roles in the global mango trade, India continues to lead the way by a remarkable margin.
