On a global scale, India is the largest producer of mangoes, contributing close to half of the world’s total production. Its output is significantly higher than that of other major mango-producing countries such as China, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico, reinforcing India’s dominance in the global mango industry.

Within India, Uttar Pradesh holds the top position in mango production. States such as Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, and Bihar follow closely behind. Together, these states contribute a major share of the country’s total mango output and support both domestic consumption and exports.

Different regions of India contribute to mango exports in different ways. Maharashtra is the leading exporter of fresh mangoes, mainly due to strong overseas demand for Alphonso mangoes. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are known for mango pulp exports, supplying processing industries around the world. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar play an important role by supplying large volumes of table mangoes to export markets.

India exports a wide range of mango varieties, each preferred in different global markets. Popular export varieties include Alphonso, Kesar, Dasheri, Langra, Banganapalli, Totapuri, and Chaunsa. These varieties differ in taste, shelf life, texture, and suitability for fresh consumption or processing, making Indian mangoes versatile for international buyers.

Indian mangoes are shipped to many parts of the world. Major importing countries include the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bangladesh. Among these, Gulf nations import the highest volumes due to their proximity to India and strong year-round demand.

Mango exports play a crucial role in India’s economy. They generate valuable foreign exchange and support the livelihoods of millions of people involved in farming, harvesting, packaging, processing, transportation, and export operations across the country.

Mango is often called the “King of Fruits” because of its exceptional taste, nutritional value, and cultural importance in India. Several Indian mango varieties, including Alphonso, Kesar, and Dasheri, have received Geographical Indication (GI) tags, helping protect their regional identity in global markets. Export demand is seasonal, with shipments peaking during the summer months when consumption rises sharply in Gulf, European, and North American regions.
