Captain Shambhavi Pathak, the pilot-in-command of the chartered aircraft carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, was among the six people who lost their lives in the tragic plane crash near Baramati on Wednesday.

The privately operated aircraft was attempting to land at Baramati airport when it reportedly lost control during the final approach and crashed, killing everyone on board. Ajit Pawar, his personal security officer, two pilots and other crew members were among the victims, officials confirmed.

Pilot-in-Command of the Ill-Fated Flight

Captain Shambhavi Pathak was serving as the Pilot-in-Command of the Learjet 45 involved in the accident. According to available professional records, she had a strong academic background in aviation and was regarded as a trained and qualified pilot in the business jet segment.

She completed her schooling at Air Force Bal Bharati School and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics, Aviation and Aerospace Science and Technology from the University of Mumbai. To further her professional training, she went on to enrol at the New Zealand International Commercial Pilot Academy, where she pursued advanced flight training.

The death of Captain Pathak has sent shockwaves through the aviation community, with colleagues and industry professionals remembering her as a committed aviator who had built her career through years of specialised training and flying experience.

Investigation Underway

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a comprehensive investigation into the crash to determine the exact cause. Officials said factors such as technical failure, weather conditions and operational aspects are being examined. The findings are expected after analysis of flight data and other technical evidence.

The tragic accident has not only claimed the life of a senior political leader but has also highlighted the loss of skilled aviation professionals, deepening the sense of grief across the state and beyond.
