The widening of a culvert built on Ambil Odha in the Parvati area has been put on hold due to a delay in the installation of a new water pipeline for almost 2 years now.

The 2019 floods caused damage to the culvert. The culvert’s strengthening and reconstruction were finished by the PMC. Though the administration stated that it would only widen after the pipelines were laid, this has been pending.

The water supply department is laying a new pipeline, according to a PMC official. The pipeline is currently undergoing testing, which should conclude in the next two weeks. They will begin culvert widening after the pipeline work is finished. To facilitate traffic flow, the culvert will have one more lane added to it.

According to the PMC’s road department, traffic has not been impeded by the ongoing work. According to a road department official, there is enough room at the culvert for two-way traffic.

On the other hand, local activists claimed that the PMC was taking too long to finish the work on the culverts at Ambil Odha and the building of safety walls at vital sites.

According to a local resident, people are afraid that every monsoon along Ambil Odha could result in a situation similar to flooding. Regarding the construction of safety walls, there is still uncertainty.

Eight culverts are being completed in phases, according to a PMC official. In Prayeja City, culvert laying work was finished a few months ago. At other locations, the administration is finishing up the culvert work.
