With holiday in mind, demand for express trains grows louder

There is a great demand to restart trains like Pragati express, Indrayani express and Sahyadri express.

Pune The services of a majority of trains have resumed at the Pune station, just as the nation is picking up pace after the pandemic. However, the Pune railway division is yet to resume the services of seven trains which had been stopped during the peak pandemic phase.

Pune-Mumbai-Pune (Pragati express),Pune-Skindrabad express (Shatabadi Express), Pune-Amravati express, Pune-Nashik-Bhusaval Express, Pune-Solapur-Intercity express, Pune-Mumbai-Kolhapur (Shayadhri express) and
Pune-Kazipeth express are the seven trains which passengers are urging to restart.  

Out of seven trains, there is a great demand to restart trains like Pragati express, Indrayani express and Sahyadri express.

“We are yet to receive any update regarding the start of these trains. Surely the trains have not been stopped permanently. It will be started in the future. All the other trains are functioning and so, we have not noticed any shortage of trains.” said Manoj Jhawar, spokesperson, Pune Railway Division.

The train services were stopped on March 25, 2020, and the railway operated trains as per demand, later on.

“Even in the case of local trains, we are running 26 trains between Pune and Lonavala. Earlier, we used to run 42 trains. The 26 trains are running with the capacity of 50%. Once the demand increases, we will start more trains,” added Jhawar.

Harsha Shah, the president of Pune Railway Pravasi Group, said, “In the summer season, the railway division should operate more trains for the benefit of the people. All the seven trains which are closed now have had good passenger flow before the pandemic. So it should be started at the earliest, so that people have more options.”
