Woman Arrested at Mumbai Airport with 124 Cocaine Capsules Hidden in Body
DRI seizes ₹9.73 crore worth of cocaine, probe underway to trace international drug syndicate.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a Brazilian woman after intercepting her at Mumbai’s international airport and recovering 124 cocaine-filled capsules she had swallowed. The capsules, containing 973 grams of cocaine, were valued at ₹9.73 crore in the illicit market, according to an official from the DRI’s Mumbai zonal unit.
The woman was detained based on specific intelligence after arriving from São Paulo on Wednesday. Following her arrest, she admitted to ingesting the drug-filled capsules with the intent of smuggling them into India.
“She purged 124 capsules containing 973 grams of cocaine, valued at Rs 9.73 crore in the illicit market. The substance, purported to be cocaine as per the field test report, was seized on Saturday under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” the official said.
The contraband was purged and seized on Saturday, with a field test confirming the substance as cocaine. The operation was carried out under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The arrested woman has been placed under medical supervision at JJ Hospital in Mumbai and was produced before a magistrate. Authorities are now intensifying their investigation to identify other members of the international drug syndicate connected to this case.
