Bengaluru – In a disturbing development, Bengaluru police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the brutal murder of a 29-year-old woman, whose dismembered body was found in her apartment in the Vyalikaval area. Authorities have formed eight special teams to probe the crime, as reported by India TV. The police are also reviewing extensive CCTV footage from the vicinity in hopes of identifying the suspect responsible for the heinous act.
The victim, identified as Mahalakshmi, had been living alone in a one-bedroom flat for the past five months following a separation from her husband, Hemant Das. Her body, found cut into 30 pieces and stored in a refrigerator, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
According to reports, high-ranking police officials arrived at the scene, sealing off the road leading to the residence as forensic teams and a canine unit were deployed to aid the investigation.
Police are yet to arrest a suspect, and the search for the perpetrator continues. Authorities have also been interviewing colleagues of Mahalakshmi, who worked at a local mall, and are analyzing her call detail records (CDR) for potential leads.
The investigation took a grim turn when the victim’s mother revealed that she first learned of the situation through the apartment’s landlord. He contacted her after noticing a foul odor emanating from the residence.
“Her house owner had called us at night to inform us about a foul smell coming from the house. My daughter’s body was cut and stuffed inside the fridge,” Mahalakshmi’s mother said, according to India Today.
The victim’s body has been sent for an autopsy, and authorities are awaiting the results. Mahalakshmi’s estranged husband also arrived at the scene shortly after the discovery, as reported by news agency.
Police officials have not disclosed further details about potential suspects, but the investigation is ongoing, with officers working around the clock to bring justice to the victim’s family.
