Chapekar Smarak Samiti, Savitribai Phule Pune University and Center for Citizen Science (CCS) has jointly organized a two-day lecture on ‘Ancient Indian Culture’ on Wednesday and Thursday (29 and 30 December). A workshop on ‘Indian Heritage: Introduction and Conservation’ has been organized at Samrasata Gurukulam, Chinchwad. It will be inaugurated by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at 10 am. Chairman of Chapekar Smarak Samiti Girish Prabhune gave this information.

The inaugural function will be graced by the President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Dr. Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe (MP), former Vice Chancellor of Deccan College Vasant Shinde, Mayor Usha alias Mai Dhore, MLA Laxman Jagtap, MLA Mahesh Landage.

“When and how Indian culture originated, the scientific evidence of the fact that Indians originated in India and outside India has come to light in the last few years. Former Vice Chancellor of Deccan College and Senior Archaeologist Dr. Vasant Shinde and his international team excavated Rakhigadhi archeological site in Haryana and analyzed the DNA of human skeletons found there. According to the data from that analysis, the people living in Rakhigarhi and today’s Indians have similarities in their DNA, and both Rakhigarhi and today’s Indians have their roots in India since ancient times. The scientific community has acknowledged that the theory that Indians are originally from outside India is now obsolete, given the addition of archaeological evidence to DNA studies. Dr. Vasant Shinde will give an illustrated presentation on the entire research, as well as public lectures in two volumes on ancient Indian culture on December 29 and 30, ” said Girish Prabhune.

Many places, compositions, artefacts, written-oral literature, traditional skills can be found in different parts of the country, displaying Indian culture which is one of the oldest cultures in the world.

“A project will be launched soon to collect scientific records of all these elements of Indian culture through public participation and record their current status. This is the first workshop for this project. In this Dr. Pramod Dandwate, Dr. Shrikant Ganveer, Girish Prabhune, Pradip Rawat, Dr. Srinand Bapat, Dr. Arun Chandra Pathak, Ramesh Padwal and Mayuresh Prabhune will be guiding. In the same way, participants will get a chance to see demonstrations of traditional arts and crafts on both the days, ” he added further.

Scholars, students, professors and heritage lovers from all over Maharashtra and outside the state have registered for this two-day workshop. Dr. Vasant Shinde’s public lectures, as well as some of the workshop lectures, will be broadcast online on social media through Facebook Live, “said Prabhune.
