WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATED AT INS SHIVAJI

INS Shivaji undertook various activities towards celebration of World Environment Day in Station Lonavla from 03-05 Jun 21 with the theme “Ecosystem Restoration”.

As part of it, plantation drive with strict adherence to COVID protocols was conducted on 05 Jun 21. The objective of the plantation drive was to increase green cover in the Establishment, reduce the carbon footprint, Bamboo restoration and herbal forestry. The event included Positioning and distribution of saplings for plantation in liaison with Forest Department, Maharashtra, Distribution of manure produced to the residents, Procurement of herbal plants and setting up of herbal plantation section in ship’s nursery. In Co-ordination with Forest Department, MH, tree Plantation in large areas of land was also carried out with approx. 11,000 plants of various herbal and fruit varieties.

Team Prakriti of NWWA Station Lonavla actively participated in the activities with conduct of Cutest Photo for children of little angels under the Age of 5, Poster making competition for children of age group 6 to 15, Article writing completion and fun with papers (re- use of papers) for the ladies.

Lectures, discussions, painting and slogan writing, Competition on best ideas for restorations of forests, electricity/water conservation measures and other environment related topics pertaining to ecosystem restoration for service personnel and families was conducted on 04 Jun 21. Motivational and educative videos on environmental awareness and best practices were uploaded on unit LAN/Website.
