Pune, December 25, 2025: With the countdown to the upcoming municipal elections underway, political activity across Maharashtra has gathered momentum, marked by intense alliance negotiations and seat-sharing talks. Amid these developments, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) working president Supriya Sule has responded to the resignation of Pune city president Prashant Jagtap, while also addressing speculation surrounding political realignments in the city.

Interacting with the media, Sule confirmed that discussions are in progress between the Ajit Pawar-led NCP and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP regarding a joint contest in the Pune Municipal Corporation elections. A meeting of leaders from both factions was held in Pune on the night of December 24, where preliminary deliberations on fighting the civic polls together and seat distribution took place. Sources indicate that the Sharad Pawar faction has proposed contesting around 40 seats, while the Ajit Pawar faction has put forward a proposal for 30 seats. Sule said the final call on seat-sharing will be taken jointly by her and Ajit Pawar.

Commenting on Prashant Jagtap’s resignation and reports suggesting he may join another party, Sule extended her best wishes for his future, remarking that “every day brings a new beginning.” She clarified that although discussions on seat-sharing have been held, no final proposal has been formalised so far. Local leaders have been asked to prepare detailed lists, following which an official announcement will be made.

Addressing speculation about a possible alliance with the Congress, Sule noted that the decision lies with the Congress leadership, pointing out that local body elections have largely been contested separately over the past several years. She emphasised that the party’s priority remains its grassroots workers and appealed for an end to political inducements. Sule added that efforts are continuing to ensure the Maha Vikas Aghadi contests the civic elections together.

Additional meetings on seat-sharing are scheduled to take place in Mumbai, with a final decision expected in the coming days.
