10 heart attack deaths reported in 24 hours  during Garba celebration in Gujarat

PUNE: In the past 24 hours, during Navratri celebrations in Gujarat, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of at least 10 individuals. 

The age range of the victims varied, encompassing teenagers to middle-aged individuals. Among them, the youngest casualty was a 13-year-old boy hailing from Dabhoi, Baroda.

One distressing incident took place on Friday, where a 24-year-old man from Ahmedabad suddenly collapsed and passed away while participating in the Garba festivities. Similarly, a 17-year-old boy from Kapadwanj also lost his life while engaging in Garba. Regrettably, a series of similar cases have been reported throughout the state within the past day.

Furthermore, during the initial six days of Navratri, the 108 emergency ambulance services received a total of 521 calls related to heart-related issues, along with an additional 609 calls concerning breathlessness. These distress calls were reported between 6 pm and 2 am, coinciding with the timing of Garba celebrations.

The recent increase in this concerning pattern has prompted both governmental authorities and event organizers to take immediate action. In response, the state government has issued a comprehensive alert to all government hospitals and community health centers (CHCs) located near Garba venues, urging them to remain vigilant and prepared. Additionally, Garba organizers have been given specific instructions to establish designated corridors that allow ambulances to swiftly access the event premises in case of any emergencies.

Furthermore, organizers have taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of participants by stationing doctors and ambulances at the venues. They have also been advised to provide CPR training to their staff and ensure an ample supply of water for all participants. Tragically, prior to the Navratri festivities this year, three individuals in Gujarat lost their lives due to heart attacks while engaging in Garba practice.
