Enhanced Connectivity and Tourism Opportunities in Kerala

Indian Railways is set to introduce 10 new Vande Bharat Express trains in Kerala, promising improved connectivity and a boost to local tourism. These modern, eco-friendly trains, also known as Namo Bharat, will facilitate regional travel with speeds up to 130 km/h, featuring automatic sliding doors, air conditioning, and CCTV surveillance for safety. Their electric engines minimize environmental impact, enhancing the sustainable travel experience for passengers.

New Routes and Stoppages

Among the new routes, two trains will depart from Kollam, heading towards Thirunelveli and Thrissur, with an extension planned to Guruvayur.

Other routes include Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam and Guruvayur to Madurai in Tamil Nadu.

This expanded network aims to position Kollam as a central hub, offering stops that provide convenient access to regional attractions, including Kerala’s coastlines, backwaters, and scenic landscapes. Additionally, these services will pass through the historic Kollam-Shenkottai line and the scenic Kottarakkara-Punalur-Thenmala-Aryankavu route, adding a unique travel experience to popular destinations.

Ticket Fares and Options

Vande Bharat Express ticket prices start at Rs 30, inclusive of GST. Monthly passes are available, allowing frequent travelers to pay the equivalent of 20 single journeys, making it a cost-effective option for regular commuters. This new fare structure provides flexibility and savings, catering to both casual tourists and regular commuters.

With these new connections, Kerala’s enhanced rail infrastructure is expected to benefit local businesses, create job opportunities, and promote tourism by making Kerala and nearby regions in Tamil Nadu more accessible to travelers.
