Bollywood Actress-Turned-IPS Officer: A Journey of Determination and Success
Simala Prasad’s journey from a Bollywood enthusiast to a distinguished Indian Police Service (IPS) officer is a powerful story of resilience and versatility. She successfully cleared the UPSC exam and completed her training as an IPS officer in Madhya Pradesh. In addition to her career in public service, she also made a name for herself by acting in Bollywood films.
Born in October 1980 in Bhopal, Simala completed her early education at St. Joseph Co-ed School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s in Commerce and a Master’s in Sociology from Barkatullah University. She grew up in a family that emphasized both achievement and service; her father, Dr. Bhagirath Prasad, is a retired IAS officer and former Lok Sabha member, while her mother, Mehrunnisa Parvez, is an accomplished writer. This nurturing environment played a key role in shaping her career aspirations.

Public service journey :
Simala Prasad became an IPS officer at the age of 22, securing an impressive All India Rank of 51 in her first attempt. Inspired from a young age to join the civil services, she began her UPSC preparation in the final year of her graduation. Her journey in public service started with clearing the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MP PSC) exam, which led her to serve as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
Determined to make a broader impact, she pursued the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) independently, without any coaching. Initially, she dedicated 7-8 hours daily to her studies, later setting a consistent six-hour study schedule, and prepared for both UPSC prelims and mains simultaneously. This disciplined approach enabled her to clear the UPSC CSE on her first try in 2010, achieving her goal through self-study.
Acting career:
While Simala’s primary dedication lies in her role as an IPS officer, she has also pursued her artistic interests. A lifelong dancer and actress at heart, she ventured into Bollywood, acting in Alif (2017) and Nakkash (2019). Her debut was sparked by director Zaigham Imam, who, captivated by her simplicity and elegance, offered her a role in Alif after meeting her at a program in Delhi.
Currently, Simala continues to serve as an IPS officer in Madhya Pradesh as part of the 2010 batch, balancing her responsibilities with her creative passions. With a following of over 11.3 k on Instagram, she serves as an inspiration, proving that with commitment, one can excel in both professional service and personal pursuits.
