In a private plot on Ghodbunder Road close to the Kasarvadavali Police Station, the Thane Police broke up a drug- and alcohol-filled rave party before New Year’s Eve on Sunday morning.

Thirty-odd young people from Thane and the surrounding areas were taken into custody and sent for medical evaluations and legal proceedings. Following a tip, the police raided the party location at four in the morning and found a lot of illicit substances, including drugs, alcohol, and narcotics.

The police were unable to determine whether the party’s organizers had collected an entry fee, even though the celebration was in full swing with loud music, singing, and dancing.

The party guests were invited via social media by the event organizer, who is reportedly a Thane native, who also provided them with the location maps. Given that the party location was near police buildings, concerns were raised regarding the effectiveness and alertness of the police.

A social activist from the area voiced his worries about the incident and said that it was astonishing that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s hometown was the venue for such a party.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police oversaw the operation with the assistance of his squad from the local police and Crime Branch Units 2 and 5. Ahead of the New Year Eve celebrations, the police have stepped up their security and vigilance in the state.
