A 21-year-old woman from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, died from rabies three days after finishing her rabies shots. Srishti Shinde, the woman who died, got bitten by a stray dog on February 3 while walking along Bhausingji Road towards Shaniwar Peth.

When she stopped to answer a phone call, the dog bit her leg. After that, she got a fever and became weak in her legs. She went to a private hospital, where doctors did tests and put her on a ventilator because her condition got worse. The tests showed that she had rabies. Even though she was moved to a government hospital for more treatment, she died the next day.

Srishti Shinde’s death has raised questions about how she contracted rabies despite completing the vaccine course. Her family is asking whether the vaccine was not kept at the required temperature.
