The residents of Phursungi and members of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Pune held a fierce protest on 11th December (Monday) at Mantarwadi Chowk, Phursungi against various issues like paying property tax without facilities like road, drainage, water supply and more.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ganesh Dhore, Ex Corporator & NCP Pune Politician, said “One of the main issues of the protest was property tax. The PMC takes tax from our area which is 15% to 20% more than the tax incurred by the gram panchayat. However, no facilities are getting provided to us by the PMC. Several types of taxes are taken by the PMC such as water tax, health tax, education tax etc. But no facilities are provided at all. There are no PMC run schools here, no healthcare facilities are provided by the PMC, water supply comes once in 4 to 6 days etc. Why are such taxes incurred by the PMC if facilities are not provided to us?”

Dhore further added “The amount of waste picking vehicles, currently provided by the PMC, is not enough. We had requested for 20 to 25 PMC waste picking vehicles to be provided but only 1 to 2 such vehicles came. Hence, garbage collection doesn’t happen every day. So, if PMC isn’t providing appropriate & basic facilities to us, why are taxes being charged ?”

Dhore further said that the protest lasted for around 1.5 hours on 11th December morning. Around 200 to 250 people participated in the protest at Mantarwadi Chowk, Phursungi.

The demands of the people of Phursungi, Uruli Devachi & nearby areas are:

·         The PMC must provide all kinds of facilities first & then must take taxes from the citizens.

·         Improvement & repairing work of basic facilities like road & potholes repair, providing every day water supply, drainage system etc must be done immediately.

·         Preparing & acting as per DP (Development Plan) as Phursungi. there is no progress on the DP status too.
