Three passengers aboard an international flight drew attention due to their unusual behaviour. The air hostess, noticing this odd conduct, tried offering tea and water, but her attempts were met with curt refusals. Concerned, she alerted the flight captain, who informed customs officials via air traffic control.

Upon landing, the passengers were taken to a private room for questioning. Under interrogation, they confessed to hiding gold pieces within their rectums. Customs officials recovered eight gold pieces weighing 439 grams. The three individuals were immediately arrested.

In a separate incident, a passenger traveling from Indore to New Delhi was intercepted at Indira Gandhi International Airport based on intelligence input. During an X-ray screening, customs officials identified suspicious items in the passenger’s baggage.

Upon further investigation, the officials recovered 13 pieces of foreign-origin gold weighing nearly 999 grams, valued at approximately ₹72.72 lakhs. The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending the smuggler.

Both cases highlight innovative yet desperate methods of gold smuggling, such as concealing gold within the body and luggage. Authorities credit the vigilance of the flight crew and the efficiency of airport customs for thwarting these attempts.
