Top-Ranked IPS Officer Nimit Goyal Resigns After a Decade in Service to Join the Private Sector.

In a surprising move, 33-year-old IPS officer Nimit Goyal, a 2014-batch Maharashtra cadre officer, has resigned from his post to explore opportunities in the private sector. Goyal, who recently served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) in Nagpur before being transferred to Mumbai, made headlines with his decision to step down from a prestigious and highly sought-after role in the Indian Police Service.

Originally from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, Goyal comes from a business family and earned an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 164 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, securing his place in the IPS. Over his decade-long career, he held various positions, including Additional Superintendent of Police of Sindhudurg and Commandant of SRPF Group 4 in Mumbai. He was also the Superintendent of Police in Aurangabad before taking up his role as Mumbai DCP.

Despite his achievements in the police force, Goyal’s decision to leave the IPS has raised questions about the factors that led him to resign. He had previously submitted his resignation in 2022 but later withdrew it. His recent resignation, submitted in July, is pending approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs, a process that could take several months.

Goyal’s wife, Aanchal Goyal, is also a distinguished officer. She is currently serving as an IAS officer and Additional Commissioner in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The couple’s dedication to public service has been widely recognized, making Goyal’s resignation a noteworthy shift from public to private endeavors.

In a statement to a news agency, Goyal expressed his desire to take up a new assignment in the private sector, signaling a significant career change. His move reflects a growing trend among civil servants who, despite achieving top ranks in the UPSC, choose to transition to the private sector after years of public service.
