50 Trained Aapda Mitra Volunteers To Assist PCMC During Monsoon Season
Pimpri, May 14, 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Law Committee has approved the experimental appointment of trained and experienced “Aapda Mitra” volunteers for the upcoming monsoon season to strengthen disaster management and emergency response operations in the city.
The proposal was approved during a Law Committee meeting chaired by Committee Chairperson Sujata Borate at the Late Mayor Madhukarrao Pawale Hall in the PCMC main administrative building.

Committee members Dnyaneshwar Jagtap, Vinayak Gaikwad, Kunda Bhise, Shruti Dolas, Kushagra Kadam, Shekhar Chinchwade, Varsha Jagtap, and Tushar Sahane were present at the meeting along with Municipal Secretary Mukesh Kolap, Deputy Commissioners Sandeep Khot and Rajesh Agale, Assistant Commissioner Tanaji Narale, Executive Engineer Shirish Poreddy, Special Officer Kiran Gaikwad, and Chief Disaster Management Officer Omprakash Bahiwal.
The civic body stated that the initiative aims to make the Disaster Management Department more efficient, responsive, and capable during the monsoon season.
As part of the 2026 pre-monsoon preparedness plan, the volunteers will help handle emergency situations such as flooding, waterlogging, fallen trees, accidents, and public safety concerns during heavy rains.
Under the proposal, trained “Aapda Mitra” volunteers who have received disaster management training from government-recognised institutions, along with trained personnel from the State Fire Services and Civil Defence Department, will be appointed.
At least 50 experienced volunteers will be appointed on an honorarium basis for a period of five months from the date of appointment. The volunteers will receive remuneration according to the minimum wage rates applicable to contractual workers under the Labour Welfare Department.
The volunteers will work in coordination with the Disaster Management Department and will be responsible for responding quickly during emergencies, assisting in rescue operations, helping shift citizens to safer locations, supporting flood relief efforts, and assisting emergency response agencies.
Officials said the initiative is expected to significantly enhance PCMC’s disaster response capabilities during the monsoon season.
