Mumbai, March 9, 2026: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has suspended 81 examination staff members across the state for alleged negligence and involvement in irregularities during the ongoing February–March 2026 SSC Board Examination and HSC Board Examination.

According to officials, the disciplinary action was taken after several cases of mass copying, mobile phone usage and other violations were detected during inspections and flying squad visits at different examination centres.

Those suspended include centre directors, supervisors, invigilators and other staff responsible for conducting the examinations, who were found to have failed to prevent malpractice.

Incidents were reported from multiple districts, including Beed, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Gadchiroli, Washim, Nanded and Dharashiv.

Acting chairman Nandkumar Bedse said that 81 staff members have been suspended so far after irregularities were confirmed during inspections. He stated that the board follows a strict policy against malpractice in SSC and HSC examinations and warned that additional disciplinary action will be taken if further violations are uncovered during ongoing investigations.

One of the major cases occurred in Beed, where 17 staff members from a science and arts junior college were suspended after mass copying was reportedly detected during the Class 12 English examination on February 10.

Another case was reported in Kannad, where 21 staff members were suspended after similar copying incidents were identified during the same examination.

In Mantha, five officials connected with multiple centres were suspended following malpractice reported during SSC exams.

A large-scale incident was also reported at Mainagiri Maharaj School and Junior College in Toe-Jumda village in Washim during the Class 12 physics exam. A flying squad discovered that 581 students were allegedly involved in copying, and several mobile phones were recovered from the centre. Following the investigation, 28 staff members were suspended.

Additional action was taken at other centres. One staff member was suspended at a centre in Kurla village in Beed, while four staff members in Gadchiroli were suspended after students were reportedly found copying from slips and using ChatGPT during a political science exam.

Further cases were reported in Betmogara in Nanded, where two staff members at a Zilla Parishad school centre were suspended. In Dharashiv, three teachers were suspended after students were found using mobile phones during a chemistry examination, while action against additional officials has been recommended.

Board authorities said the suspensions are part of the state’s zero-tolerance policy toward exam malpractice. Monitoring measures such as flying squads, CCTV surveillance and surprise inspections will continue throughout the examination period. Officials added that investigations are still underway and more disciplinary action could follow.
