The wait is almost over as the Central Election Commission is likely to announce the Maharashtra Assembly elections on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, along with the Jharkhand assembly elections. This highly anticipated announcement has generated immense interest across Maharashtra, particularly among political circles and the nation at large.

Once the assembly elections are announced, the model code of conduct will come into effect in Maharashtra, governing the actions of political parties and candidates during the election period.

In anticipation of the election announcement, the state cabinet is convening a meeting at 9:30 am today at the Sahyadri guest house. This meeting is expected to be the last before the code of conduct is enforced, and several key decisions are likely to be made, including a potential loan waiver scheme for farmers.

While the assembly election announcement is imminent, seat allocation between Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi remains unclear. Constituent parties have already begun strategizing to field candidates against each other, with many of the 288 seats in the state already decided, albeit with some confusion surrounding specific seats.
