Utkarsh Dakhole, a 21-year-old third-year engineering student, committed a horrific crime by throttling his mother to death and then fatally stabbing his father when he returned home to their New Khasala residence on December 26. His anger stemmed from being told to switch to an ITI course after failing his physics exam three times.

The residents of New Khasala woke up on the first day of the new year to the shocking news of the double murder of the Dakhole couple by their son. Reports indicate that on December 25, Utkarsh’s father, Leeladhar, who worked at the Koradi thermal power station, slapped him and insisted that he abandon engineering and return to their hometown of Bailwada. Leeladhar suggested that Utkarsh should enroll in an ITI program and take up farming on their ancestral land, especially since he had failed his physics exam for the third consecutive year.

Utkarsh’s mother, Aruna, a teacher, also persistently encouraged him to stop pursuing engineering, which further fueled Utkarsh’s anger. As the younger of two siblings, he felt particularly pressured. On December 26, while his father attended some last rites and his sister was at college, Utkarsh first strangled his mother to death and left her body on the bed in their one-story home.

After the murder, Utkarsh wrote a suicide note on his dad’s phone to avoid the police. Utkarsh Dakhole, who is 21 years old, is said to have killed his parents at their home in New Khasala near Kamptee Road on December 26.

After the murders, Utkarsh lied to his sister, claiming that their parents had gone on a meditation trip to Bengaluru. He kept her away from home by sending her to a relative’s house until the smell of the decomposing bodies led to the discovery of the crime on Wednesday. To further cover his tracks, Utkarsh wrote a fake suicide note and saved a screenshot of it as the wallpaper on his father’s cellphone. This chilling case highlights the tragic consequences of familial pressure and mental health struggles.

The incident seems to have started because Utkarsh was upset after being told to switch to an ITI course due to failing his physics exam for the third time in engineering. Utkarsh reportedly strangled his mother, Aruna, to death and left her body on the bed in the bedroom. When his father, Leeladhar, came home two hours later, Utkarsh attacked him from behind as he was trying to enter the bathroom. Utkarsh used a knife he bought from Kamal Chowk to stab him.

Police sources reported that even after being stabbed, Leeladhar attempted to calm his son, Utkarsh, and resolve the situation. A heavily bleeding Leeladhar urged Utkarsh to call his mother, Aruna, so they could all sit together and discuss a solution. It was during this tense moment that Utkarsh allegedly confessed to murdering his mother.

When Utkarsh questioned whether his injured father still wanted him to drop out of engineering college, Leeladhar reportedly insisted that he should still discontinue his studies. This led to a confrontation where Utkarsh pinned his father down and stabbed him multiple times until he lay still. After the murder, Utkarsh typed a suicide note on his father’s cellphone and set it as the wallpaper.

Following this, Utkarsh picked up his sister from Automotive Square while claiming that their parents had gone to Bengaluru for a 10-day meditation camp, taking advantage of a good package deal. They then went to stay with relatives in Bailwada. Utkarsh’s sister attempted to call their father, but his phone was off, which Utkarsh explained was due to mobile restrictions at the meditation camp.

On Thursday, Utkarsh received a call from neighbors complaining about a strong odor coming from their house, which was locked from the inside. After Utkarsh arrived, the neighbors forced the door open.

The drawing room was discovered locked from the outside. The neighbors were shocked to see Leeladhar dead in the drawing room and Aruna in the bedroom. They immediately alerted the police. Mahesh Andhale, the in-charge of Kapil Nagar police station, along with Zonal DCP Niketan Kadam, also arrived at the scene.

A police officer stated that Utkarsh had disabled the timeline and location settings on his father’s mobile phone before taking it with him. Upon returning with the neighbors, he placed the phone somewhere in the room and claimed he had just discovered it.

The police were curious as to why the location services were turned off. Additionally, the drawing room was locked from the outside, which ruled out the possibility of suicide. Utkarsh confessed everything within an hour when the police questioned him.

Sources indicated that Utkarsh attempted to deceive the police but struggled to clarify several issues, including the fact that his father’s phone had its location disabled and the inconsistencies in his statements to his sister about their location.
