Vijay Wadettiwar Claims Valmik Karad Receiving Special Treatment In Police Custody, Alleges Encounter
Senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar has made startling allegations regarding Valmik Karad, an accused in the Santosh Deshmukh murder case. Wadettiwar claimed that Karad is being given preferential treatment while in police custody at the Beed police station.
Speaking to the media, Wadettiwar raised questions about Karad reportedly being provided with a bed in custody, an unusual facility for an accused. “Police claim the bed is for their use, but this has never been seen before. Is it being done to favor Valmik Karad? A thorough investigation into these allegations is needed,” he asserted.
Wadettiwar further alleged that Karad might be at risk of an encounter to protect higher-ups involved in the case. “I received credible information from a senior officer that a ‘smaller target’ like Karad could be eliminated to save the ‘bigger players.’ I urge the police not to destroy critical evidence by such means,” he stated.
He also accused the government of failing to act impartially in this case. On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Wadettiwar criticized the ruling coalition, questioning the need for multiple beds in the police station and suggesting this could escalate to other luxuries. He urged that the investigation be transferred outside Beed for impartiality, adding, “If the government is serious, it should either stop pretending to act or ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation.”
The Santosh Deshmukh murder case has drawn widespread attention, with protests demanding strict action against the accused. The state government has already constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
