Fifteen years after the German Bakery blast in Pune, the tragic incident remains fresh in the minds of many. On February 13, 2010, a bomb ripped through the popular eatery in Koregaon Park, killing 17 people, including five foreigners, and injuring over 72.

A lone terrorist planted the explosive in a bag under a chair and left it unnoticed. Ninety minutes later, a waiter opened the bag, triggering a massive explosion. The blast destroyed the bakery, shattered nearby buildings, and left the city in shock.

Eyewitnesses recall the horrifying sight—rubble, smoke, and screams filling the air. The bakery’s owner described running to the scene, finding the place in ruins, and witnessing the suffering of victims. Many were young customers celebrating Valentine’s Eve.

A woman who lost her brother in the attack shared her grief. Her brother had told her he was meeting a friend at the bakery that evening. Later, she found him in the ICU, where his last words were addressed to her.

Another survivor, who suffered serious injuries, recalled how financial aid was inadequate. He received ₹1.5 lakh in compensation but had to cover most medical expenses himself. Many victims struggled with long-term trauma.

The explosion was later linked to terror groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Indian Mujahideen. One suspect was arrested, and another was identified. Security measures at the bakery have since tightened, with weekly police checks and bomb squad visits.

Despite initial doubts, the bakery reopened in 2013. Today, it stands as a symbol of resilience, welcoming a new generation of customers while carrying the weight of its tragic past.
