Mumbai airport unveils fully automated digital payment system for parking facilities
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has implemented a completely automated digital payment system at its Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility, which helps reduce waiting times and offers a more convenient parking experience.
Travelers can make parking payments using mobile wallets, debit and credit cards, UPI, and other digital methods. All customer lanes at the MLCP are fitted with FASTag counters to facilitate quicker entry and exit. This system is particularly advantageous for FASTag users, as it eliminates the need for manual receipts or cash transactions.
The parking area can accommodate around 5,000 vehicles at terminals 1 and 2, with an average daily traffic of nearly 30,000 vehicles. Parking fees are determined by the type of vehicle, with charges for four-wheelers ranging from Rs 150 to Rs 1,000, while two-wheelers are charged between Rs 250 and Rs 1,000. There are also different rates for private and commercial vehicles.
At present, 66 percent of MLCP users prefer making payments through FASTag, while 10-15 percent use UPI, credit, or debit cards. About 5 percent of users opt for pre-booking parking spaces. With 85 percent of passengers now using cashless payment methods, CSMIA is working towards eliminating cash transactions by partnering with various stakeholders and promoting automated digital solutions. Additionally, passengers opting to pay in cash are required to do so at specific central payment stations.

The transition to a digital payment system at the MLCP demonstrates our dedication to offering a contemporary and efficient parking experience.”
