Pune: Commuters using University Road can expect relief soon, as the Pune traffic police plan to reopen the Range Hills Chowk to Shivajinagar stretch for vehicles in the coming days. The ongoing Metro construction, which had led to prolonged roadblocks, is now in its final stages, officials confirmed.

For over a year, traffic heading from University Chowk towards Shivajinagar was diverted via Sinchannagar Road and Agriculture College, causing longer travel times and inconvenience. Many commuters have urged authorities to restore the original route to ease daily congestion.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amol Zende announced that efforts are underway to gradually reopen the road in the next four to five days. “We are finalizing the proposal and making necessary arrangements,” he told TOI.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which is constructing the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar elevated Metro, is coordinating with traffic police to ensure smooth vehicular movement. Additionally, two Metro stations and a flyover are under construction on the same stretch.

For those traveling from Aundh and Baner, restrictions begin well before SPPU Chowk, further compounding the traffic situation. With phased reopening now planned, commuters hope for smoother travel in the days ahead.
