After the state assembly elections, all political parties have begun preparations for the upcoming local body elections. Though the election dates are yet to be officially announced, workers from both the Mahayuti alliance and opposition parties have been celebrating enthusiastically. The Thackeray faction of the opposition has called for contesting independently in some areas, while Mahayuti is witnessing a large influx of new members.

Amidst this political activity, the Supreme Court has ordered that the long-pending local self-government elections be held within the next four months, triggering major political discussions across the state. This has raised questions about whether the three parties in the Mahayuti alliance will contest these elections together or individually.

Responding to this, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has clarified Mahayuti’s plan for the elections. He announced that the alliance will contest the local body elections together. However, he also added that in certain cases, local-level decisions may differ, which has led to some confusion in political circles.

Fadnavis welcomed the Supreme Court’s order and said, “We are very happy that the Supreme Court has allowed the local body elections to be held within four months. We wholeheartedly welcome the court’s decision. We will request the Election Commission to begin preparations.”

There is speculation that the elections may be held in September.
