For the past two months, residents of Wanowrie and visitors to the Sacred World Commercial Complex have been facing major inconvenience due to incomplete drainage line work. Locals have blamed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the slow progress, which has led to dug-up roads and damaged footpaths that are yet to be restored.

A representative from the Sacred World Commercial Complex told Pune Pulse that the entry and exit points of the complex have remained closed for almost two months. As a result, shoppers are finding it difficult to access the shops, leading to financial losses for businesses in the complex.

Vikas Molawade from the PMC Drainage Department explained that the delay happened because of the hard stone layers found during excavation. “The excavation work took longer than expected due to hard sediment underground. However, we will complete the resurfacing of the dug-up road and restore the footpath within the next four days,” he said.

The work is being carried out from Mahadji Shinde Chhatri to Samvidhan Chowk. Officials also informed that the work on the side towards Samvidhan Chowk will be completed within the next two to three days.

Sandeep Jagtap, a social activist from Wanowrie informed that PMC’s delay in completing the work is affecting the businesses and local residents are facing inconvenience. The narrow road is causing congestion leading to frustration among people.

Residents and shop owners have urged the PMC to speed up the work and restore normalcy at the earliest. Many have said that the slow pace is affecting both daily life and local businesses, especially as the Sacred Heart Commercial Complex is a popular shopping destination in Wanowrie.

Locals hope the PMC sticks to its assurance and finishes the work without any further delay.
