Project to Ease Traffic Congestion on Pune-Ahilyanagar Highway

Pune: In a major infrastructure development, the Maharashtra State Government has approved the construction of a double-decker flyover from Phoenix Market City Mall to Kharadi Jakat Naka. This five-kilometre stretch, forming part of the proposed Pune-Shirur elevated corridor, is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion on the busy Pune-Ahilyanagar (formerly Nagar Road) highway.

Initially excluded from the project, the Phoenix Mall to Kharadi section has now been included following sustained efforts by Vadgaon Sheri MLA Bapusaheb Pathare. Pathare consistently pursued the matter with key leaders, including Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, MP Sharad Pawar, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and Assembly Speaker Adv. Rahul Narwekar. He personally met Gadkari on four occasions in Delhi and Nagpur and also raised the demand during the Maharashtra Assembly’s budget session.

A government resolution issued recently confirmed the official approval of the project. The decision is expected to bring major relief to commuters by resolving chronic traffic jams on Pune-Ahilyanagar Road and enhancing connectivity between Pune’s eastern areas and Shirur.

Expressing his gratitude, MLA Pathare thanked all the leaders and officials who supported the proposal. He emphasized that the project addresses the critical needs arising from the region’s rapid population growth and increasing traffic burden.

Former Vadgaon Sheri MLA Sunil Tingre also welcomed the government’s decision, highlighting its importance for the long-term management of traffic congestion in the area.

Work on the double-decker flyover is expected to commence soon, promising improved travel experiences for thousands of daily commuters.
