Pimpri, May 23, 2025: With the India Meteorological Department predicting above-average rainfall this year, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh has directed all municipal departments to keep their emergency response systems fully prepared and to emphasize micro-level disaster planning.

Speaking at the pre-monsoon review meeting held at the Late Mayor Madhukar Pawale Auditorium in the Municipal Corporation, Commissioner Singh was joined by Additional Commissioners Vijaykumar Khorate and Tripti Sandbhor, Joint Commissioner Chandrakant Indalkar, City Engineer Makarand Nikam, Chief Auditor Pramod Bhosale, Chief Finance Officer Praveen Jain, Medical Officer Dr. Laxman Gophane, Deputy Commissioner Anna Bodade, Deputy Director of Urban Development Prasad Gaikwad, Chief Security Officer Uday Jarande, Special Officer Kiran Gaikwad, Disaster Management Officer Omprakash Bahival, along with other city engineers, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, executive engineers, and zonal officers.

Key directives issued by Commissioner Shekhar Singh included:

  • Identify and implement permanent solutions at locations prone to heavy waterlogging.
  • Ensure uninterrupted power supply to municipal hospitals during emergencies.
  • Issue notices to residents of dilapidated buildings and plan for their safe evacuation.
  • Prepare schools as temporary shelters for those affected by flood-like situations.
  • Relocate residents from riverside areas that are at risk of flooding.

Quick Response Teams to Remain Active Around the Clock

To provide immediate assistance to citizens during emergencies, Singh instructed the formation of Quick Response Teams comprising personnel from disaster management, fire services, health, electricity, structural, and garden departments. These teams will remain active, including during nighttime hours.

Orders Issued to Remove Unauthorized and Hazardous Hoardings

The sky-sign department has been directed to promptly remove all unauthorized and dangerous hoardings across the city, with a deadline to complete the task within two days. Ongoing drain-cleaning operations must also be completed immediately.

Commissioner Singh emphasized the need for all departments to maintain coordination during emergencies. He also instructed zonal officers to ensure that local emergency systems in their respective wards are fully operational.

During the meeting, Singh reviewed last year’s monsoon response efforts. Disaster Management Officer Omprakash Bahival presented details of the corporation’s current pre-monsoon preparations.
