A major infrastructure boost is on the horizon for the Konkan region as the upcoming Revas-Reddy Coastal Highway promises to cut travel time between Mumbai and Sindhudurg to just 4–5 hours. This ambitious project is expected to transform coastal connectivity and become a gamechanger for the region.
Announcing the development, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that the new access-controlled highway will allow travelers to enjoy a fast and scenic coastal journey, significantly reducing the travel time for daily commuters and holiday-goers heading to Konkan.
Key Features of the Revas-Reddy Coastal Highway
The project, being developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), will pass through Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts. The highway will not only improve road connectivity but also allow travelers to experience the natural beauty of the Konkan coastline, making the route both efficient and picturesque.
As part of the development, nine creek bridges are under construction at key points along the route, including:
- Revas–Karanja
- Revdanda
- Agardanda
- Kelshi
- Kalbadevi
- Dabhol
- Jaigad
Some of these bridges are already under construction, and Deputy CM Shinde has instructed authorities to accelerate progress on the pending sections.
Enhancing Connectivity and Tourism
Shinde emphasized that the Konkan Access-Controlled Expressway, along with the Revas-Reddy Coastal Highway, will revolutionize the transportation network in the region. It will:
- Bring Mumbai and Sindhudurg closer
- Enable faster travel to Konkan
- Support regional development and tourism
- Reduce dependency on the congested Mumbai-Goa highway
The new highway is expected to complement the ongoing work on the Mumbai-Goa Highway and offer an alternative high-speed route for both locals and tourists.
A Scenic and Strategic Route
Planned to run close to the Konkan shoreline, the highway will provide travelers with breathtaking sea views, making the drive not just faster but more enjoyable. The route is expected to boost eco-tourism, improve access to remote coastal areas, and enhance economic opportunities in Konkan’s hinterland.
