Pune, September 6, 2025 — A youth was shot dead in Pune’s Nana Peth area on Friday night, heightening tensions ahead of Ganesh immersion processions.

The victim, identified as Ayush alias Govind Komkar, was attacked around 8 pm in the parking area of Laxmi Co-operative Housing Society, where he lived. According to police, three armed assailants had been lying in wait before opening fire, striking him three times. Ayush was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations suggest the killing was carried out in retaliation for the murder of former NCP corporator Vanraj Andekar, who was gunned down on September 1, 2024. Police sources confirmed that Ayush was the son of Ganesh Komkar, one of the prime accused arrested in Andekar’s murder.

In that case, a total of 23 individuals, including Somnath Gaikwad, Anirudhha Dudhbhate, Jayant Komkar, Sanjivani Komkar, and Ganesh Komkar, were booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and remain in jail.

Recently, Bharti Vidyapeeth police arrested Datta Kale for allegedly performing Reiki on gang members involved in Andekar’s murder, raising suspicions of an ongoing vendetta. Eight accused have been booked so far.

Following the shooting, police have increased security in the city and are closely monitoring rival gangs to prevent further violence during the festive period.
