Six people lost their lives after a cargo ropeway wire snapped at the Pavagadh hill temple in Gujarat’s Panchmahal district on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 3:30 pm when the rope carrying goods broke, leading to the fall of two liftmen, two workers, and two others. Panchmahal Collector confirmed the deaths and said an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause.

Local police and fire brigade teams quickly reached the site to carry out rescue and relief operations. Officials clarified that the passenger ropeway used by devotees was closed since morning due to bad weather, and only the goods ropeway was in operation.

The Pavagadh temple, located at about 800 metres above sea level, is dedicated to Goddess Kali and draws nearly 2.5 million devotees every year. Pilgrims usually climb 2,000 steps or take a cable car to reach the hilltop shrine.
