Nandurbar Collector Dr Mittali Sethi Sets Example By Enrolling Twins In ZP Anganwadi
Nandurbar, September 19, 2025: Breaking stereotypes and challenging perceptions about government-run schools, Nandurbar District Collector Dr Mittali Sethi has enrolled her twin children, Shukar and Sabar, in a Zilla Parishad (ZP) Anganwadi. The move, which has sparked widespread discussion, is being hailed as a step toward strengthening trust in public education.
Dr Sethi admitted her twins to the Tokar Lake Anganwadi, located about four kilometres from Nandurbar city. The decision was inspired by the innovative “Jholi” concept introduced by Anganwadi workers, which emphasizes creative and practical learning.
Explaining her choice, Dr Sethi said, “Since the school and Anganwadi are in the same premises, attention will be paid to both. We will also gain first-hand experience of what needs to be improved in other Anganwadis across the district. This is about social responsibility.”
Traditionally, ZP schools and Anganwadis have been associated with children from underprivileged families, and are often overlooked by urban and middle-class households. By enrolling her own children, Dr Sethi has not only highlighted the potential of these institutions but also sent a strong message of confidence in public education.
Dr Sethi, an IAS officer who took charge as Nandurbar District Collector in August 2024 after serving as Director of Vanamati Sanstha, is being widely praised for her initiative. Her step is expected to inspire other families and officials to rethink government schools, particularly in rural and tribal regions, and strengthen community trust in them.
Her decision has drawn appreciation across Maharashtra, with many calling it a model of social responsibility and leadership in action.
