Pune, September 19, 2025: The Forum for IT Employees (FITE) – Maharashtra has appealed to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to consider a phased opening of the much-awaited Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line.

In a letter addressed to PMRDA CEO Yogesh Mhase, the forum appreciated the rapid progress of the 23-km corridor but highlighted that waiting for the entire line’s completion could delay relief for commuters by nearly a year.

FITE stressed that the Baner–Hinjawadi stretch, which connects major IT hubs, faces severe traffic congestion and poor road infrastructure. With nearly 1.5 to 2 lakh IT employees working in the Baner IT Park vicinity and a large residential population commuting daily, the forum suggested opening the Hinjawadi Phase 3 to Baner segment first.

“Such a phased rollout would provide immediate relief to thousands of IT professionals and residents, instead of prolonging the wait,” the forum stated. They further urged that plans for a high-profile inauguration should not postpone the operational launch.

Calling it a potential “Diwali or Christmas gift” for Pune’s IT workforce, FITE underlined that the move would significantly ease daily travel challenges and support the city’s economic momentum.
