Maharashtra Weather Alert: IMD Issues Four-Day Yellow Warning for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms

Maharashtra, October 22, 2025: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a four-day Yellow Alert for several districts across Maharashtra, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds from October 22 to 25. The alert comes even as the state continues to reel under intense “October heat,” with citizens reporting issues such as dehydration, headaches, and fatigue.

Sudden Weather Shift

After days of sweltering temperatures, regions including Mumbai and its suburbs experienced a sudden change on October 21, as heavy rain with thunder and lightning lashed several parts of the state. According to meteorologists, the shift is due to an active low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal that has brought back post-monsoon rainfall to Maharashtra.

IMD Forecast: Four Days of Rain and Thunderstorms

The IMD stated that showers accompanied by thunder and lightning will persist for the next four days. A low-pressure area near the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast in the southeast Arabian Sea is expected to intensify, while another system near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands could extend rainfall activity towards Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

The IMD explains that the current rainfall is due to a combination of low-pressure systems — one over the Bay of Bengal and another near the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast — leading to widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across the state.
