How to Remove Your Name from Truecaller: A Step-by-Step Guide
How to Remove Your Name from Truecaller: A Step-by-Step Guide
Protect your privacy by deactivating and unlisting your number from the platform
Truecaller is a widely used app that helps users identify unknown callers, block spam calls, and access caller details, even if a number is not saved in their contact list. However, the same feature also raises privacy concerns. Many people find their names and phone numbers listed on Truecaller even if they never registered on the platform. This happens because someone else may have saved their number and allowed Truecaller access to their contacts.
If you wish to protect your privacy and remove your name from Truecaller’s searchable database, you need to follow a two-step process – first, deactivate your Truecaller account (if you have one), and then unlist your number from their website.
Step 1: Delete or Deactivate Your Truecaller Account
- Open the Truecaller app on your smartphone
- Tap the profile/people icon in the top-left corner
- Go to Settings
- Select Privacy Center
- Tap on Deactivate
- A pop-up will appear saying: “By deactivating your account, you will delete your profile data. Do you wish to continue?”
- Select Yes
Once done, you will be logged out and your account will be deactivated.
Step 2: Unlist Your Number from Truecaller Database
After deactivation, follow these steps to ensure your number is no longer searchable:
- Visit truecaller.com/unlisting (Truecaller Unlist Phone Number page)
- Enter your phone number with country code (e.g., +91XXXXXXXXXX)
- Tick the “I’m not a robot” verification box
- (Optional) Select or type a reason for unlisting your number
- Enter the displayed verification captcha
- Click on Unlist
Truecaller may take up to 24 hours to remove your number from its database.
Important: Numbers marked as spam cannot be unlisted.
If Your Name Appears Incorrectly on Truecaller
Sometimes Truecaller displays the wrong name because it gathers information from various users’ contact lists. To correct it:
- Download and install the Truecaller app
- Open the app and go to the menu
- Tap on Edit Profile
- Click the pencil icon next to your name
- Enter the correct first and last name and save changes
To verify, call someone who does not have your number saved — they should now see your updated name.
