IMD Issues Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Rain Expected Across Maharashtra in Next 24 Hours
Pune, October 24, 2025 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 31 districts in Maharashtra as the state braces for heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity over the next 24 hours. Officials have warned of gusty winds, lightning, and moderate to heavy rain in several regions, urging citizens to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel.
According to the IMD, October 25 will see increased rainfall activity across Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha regions.
Heavy Rain Predicted in Konkan and Mumbai
Districts including Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are likely to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. A yellow alert has been issued for all these districts, and residents have been advised to take necessary precautions.
Rain Likely in Western Maharashtra
Areas in Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, and Kolhapur, especially ghat regions, may witness light to moderate showers with strong winds. IMD officials have confirmed that rain activity will continue in these regions through the weekend.
Thunderstorms in Marathwada
Districts such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Latur, and Dharashiv are expected to receive rain with thunder and gusty winds, while Hingoli and Nanded may see light to moderate rainfall.
North Maharashtra and Vidarbha on Alert
In Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Nashik, thunderstorms and lightning are forecast, prompting a yellow alert across the northern belt.
The Vidarbha region, including Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal, is also expected to experience rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Advisory for Citizens
Authorities have advised citizens to stay indoors during heavy rainfall, avoid open fields during lightning, and follow local weather updates closely.
