Video: Lions Spotted on Shatrunjay Hill in Palitana, Devotees Stunned
Viral videos show lions roaming the sacred hill; forest officials urge caution and responsible reporting.
A lion sighting on the Shatrunjay Giriraj Mountain in Palitana has left devotees startled, as a video of the majestic big cat strolling along the hill went viral. The footage, recorded on the morning of October 24, shows a lion calmly moving between groups of pilgrims who were climbing the hill during the holiday season. Many onlookers captured the unexpected encounter on their mobile phones.
The state Forest Department confirmed the authenticity of the video. “The sighting is genuine. Shatrunjay Hill falls within the lion’s natural habitat,” said Jaipal Singh, PCCF (Wildlife). Fortunately, the lion did not harm anyone and eventually moved away, bringing relief to the devotees.
Lions have also been spotted in other areas of Bhavnagar district, including Valabhipur and nearby coastal regions, as well as parts of the neighbouring Botad district. Forest officials are continuing awareness campaigns, advising locals and visitors not to approach the animals and to report sightings responsibly to ensure both human and animal safety.
